Guymon's annual fireworks display on Monday, July 4, 2016, will be a historical show. For the first time the fireworks will be choreographed to patriotic music which will be broadcast via the radio for all to synchronize. The show is set to begin at 9:45 p.m., as long as the fire truck is not being used to respond to emergency calls elsewhere, and the massive shells will be shot from the top of the Henry C. Hitch Pioneer Arena Rodeo Grounds for visibility across the city limits. If the fire department is responding to a call, the show will begin as soon as possible. The show is expected to last 15 minutes. The arena grounds will be blocked off as a safety precaution, but residents and guests to the area are welcome to park along Thompson Park and the Texas County Activity Center.Any resident electing to participate in personal firework displays, is reminded to use extreme caution and to follow the City’s firework Ordinance 725. The ordinance bans all fireworks prior to July 4 and after July 4. Aerial fireworks of any kind are banned all year. Legal fireworks on July 4 are limited to sparklers, cylindrical fountains, cone fountains, wheels, ground spinners, snakes, glow worms, smoke devices, party poppers, booby traps, snapper, trick matches and firecrackers not exceeding one and one-half inches in length and one-quarter inch in diameter. Any violation of these terms is considered a misdemeanor offense and illegal fireworks will be confiscated. To listen to the patriotic music, tune into 92.7 KKBS on your FM radio.
