City of Guymon Water Well System Wins at State Water Convention

By Miranda Gilbert
City of Guymon

The City of Guymon's Water Department received awards at the Oklahoma Water Pollution Control Association's (OWPCA) Annual Awards Conference held last week.
Water Quality Supervisor David Moore was awarded as the year’s Medium Water Well System Supervisor. Moore was selected based on interviews of personnel, their skill and accomplishments, and an inspection of water systems. All candidates were nominated by state water resource officials.
“I feel honored and all the hard work has paid off,” Moore said. “Our support for each other is what makes this system work so well.”
The City of Guymon's water well system was also recognized as Medium Water Well System of the Year for excellence in safety, compliance, operations and maintenance. Water systems are also judged based on meeting requirements of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) or Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) regulations. Guymon’s Water well staff includes Moore, Utilities Director Tracy Bowers, and Operator Steve Christian.
The OWPCA is a non-profit operator association organized in 1926 and dedicated to the advancement of knowledge regarding the science of water, waste management and wastewater operations.
OWPCA, in conjunction with the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, provides high quality training opportunities that meet the standards for approved training credit for water and wastewater system operators.
