[ARCHIVED] Second Road Survey Underway

Second Road Survey Underway

By Miranda Gilbert

A second road survey is underway in Guymon. A van is combing the streets with a laser camera array capable of collecting automated pavement condition data.
The survey will also compile photo documention of curbs, gutter, sidewalks, and signage for prioritization as well.
The data is collected in the form of roughness to International Roughness Index (IRI) standards, wheel path rutting, transverse cracking, block cracking, alligator cracking and texture. The technology driving the laser-camera array removes the subjective nature of pavement condition data collection. The pavement condition data may be processed to provide extent-severity distress ratings, or reduced to a series of index scores for loading into an appropriate pavement management software, according to Infrastructure Management Services (IMS).
Cross slope, radius of curvature and grade are measured with a road geometric instrumentation system that does not require traffic control.
