[ARCHIVED] City Officials Ask Residents to Curb Use of Water Sprinklers during Rains

For Immediate Release: 4/29/16

City Officials are asking residents to conserve water by shutting off sprinkler systems during a rain.
This request is in response to multiple reports of sprinklers city wide spraying saturated lawns, causing runoff into streets during this Spring weather pattern.

Additional Water Conservation Tips:
-Install a humidity sensor to automatic sprinkler systems.
-Water early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are cooler.
-Check sprinkler systems frequently and adjust sprinklers so only the lawn is watered and not the house, sidewalk or street.
-Adjust sprinklers to avoid unnecessary overspray.
-Install a more-efficient irrigation system such as drip irrigation for trees, shrubs, and flowers.
-Adjust irrigation controllers, seasonally.
-Put 2-4 inches of mulch around trees and plants to reduce evaporation and keep the soil cool. Organic mulch also improves the soil and prevents weed growth.
-Use a broom to clean driveways, sidewalks and patios. Do not use a hose to wash down.
-Wash cars with a bucket, sponge, and a hose with a self-closing nozzle.
