Water Conservation

City of Guymon is asking our citizens to please conserve water. We have one well that collapsed that caused a production loss of 400 gallons per minute. City Council has already authorized biding for the replacement of the well. That process will not be complete before summer’s end. With the extreme heat and prolonged forecast of similar weather, we feel it is necessary to remind everyone to be conservative with outdoor water usage. Our water wells are running non-stop to keep up with the demands.

Ways that you can help are as follows:

       • The most efficient time to water is after 10 pm and before 10 am.
       • Check sprinkler systems to make sure that spray heads are keeping
water on the grass and not rotating into the street or sidewalks.
       • Shorten the watering times for each cycle and reduce days in the cycle.
Watering 3 times a week is more than sufficient to keep grass alive.
       • Make sure you are not over watering causing water to run down the
street.Water that runs down the street serves no beneficial use.
       • Water only when the wind is low and never in the heat of the day.

If we all pitch in to reduce overall water usage voluntarily, it could keep us from mandatory water restrictions that make it difficult on everyone. The city has already decreased watering of parks and public areas with potable water. Please do what you can to help us maintain quality service to the community we live in.
