Guymon, OK – The City of Guymon is pleased to announce that the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ) has approved the construction plans for the City's water supply expansion project.

The approval marks a significant milestone in the City's ongoing efforts to strengthen and secure Guymon's long-term water infrastructure. With ODEQ approval now in place, the project will move into Phase II, which consists of the drilling and development of new production wells.

City staff and project engineers are currently preparing bid documents and specifications for Phase II, and the project is expected to be advertised for competitive bids in the near future.

The new production wells are a critical component of the City's strategy to increase water supply capacity, improve system reliability, and meet the current and future needs of residents, businesses, agriculture, and industry throughout the region.

City Manager Micheal Shannon emphasized that this achievement reflects the dedication and perseverance of many individuals throughout the organization.

"While ODEQ's approval is an important milestone, this accomplishment belongs to the entire City of Guymon team," said Shannon. "Major infrastructure projects such as this do not happen because of one person. They are made possible through the hard work, commitment, and collaboration of many dedicated public servants."

Shannon specifically recognized the contributions of Mack McKinley, Sheila Martin, Steven Pierce, Susan Paddock, Kurt McKane, Steve Christian, Josh Mitchell, and retired employee Tracy Bowers, whose efforts were instrumental in advancing the project through planning, engineering coordination, administration, regulatory compliance, and project development.

He further noted that every City employee has played a role in making this project possible.

"Our 150 employees are the backbone of this organization," Shannon said. "Whether working in utilities, public works, administration, finance, engineering, public safety, parks, customer service, or countless other functions, each employee contributes to the success of our community and to projects like this one. This milestone reflects the collective effort of an entire team dedicated to serving the citizens of Guymon."

Additional information regarding the bidding process and project schedule will be released as Phase II advances.
