Water Leak

Guymon, OK- Last week, a main water line broke on October 6th and 7th. This water line is one of the oldest pieces of infrastructure in the city. It is being replaced through pipe bursting technology. While last week’s incidents caused disruption to the pipeline improvement on Price Boulevard, it also showed the reality of upgrading old infrastructure.

The main line break forced water flow in this area to slow or stop completely. Residents in the surrounding area were forced to cease utilizing any water while the pipe was restored. City crews from the Gas and Water departments were diligently working to restore water on east of north Highway 64 and south of northeast 24th street. Tuesday’s water line break was restored within two hours and residents were informed of the situation. The water line broke once more on Wednesday morning. City crew members and others responded to this emergency immediately and were able to restore water use and fix the line once more within hours.

These types of emergencies are followed by hours of hard work, sacrificed time with loved ones, and costs. This leak, including labor, vehicles, equipment, parts, materials and water lost, totaled $9,443.14. The City plans for these types of emergencies, however, when funds are forced to be relocated, other budget items are placed on hold.

While these situations are not ideal for residents and business owners, it is imperative to understand that there is nothing the City, nor any collaborating crew could have done to prevent it from happening. Leaks happen and everyone involved did the best they could have done, which was to respond to the call and work as quickly as possible to get it fixed.

Residents are encouraged to extend their patience with personnel who respond to these calls, wherever they may be. Our community deserves sustainable and reliable infrastructure and that can only be provided by going through processes that could cause disruptions to water use. City personnel work hard to provide the best services to everyone in the community.

The Price Boulevard Pipeline Improvement Project will continue and the City will work closely with all personnel involved to communicate with the community if any of emergencies are to arise. We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation on this matter and any future matters that may arise.
