Parks Department Gears Up for Holiday Season 🦃🎄

GUYMON- The Parks Department has been hard at work to ensure the newly crafted ‘Guymon’ sign is up before the holiday season begins. Parks Director, Jorge Guzman, has been working with his crew since Tuesday installing the sign and is preparing to add Christmas lights. When asked why Centennial Park was chosen as the location for the sign, Guzman stated, “It’s right off the highway so there will be a lot of traffic.”

In addition, the Parks Department has also added a stem wall to the playground at Thompson Park. Guzman advised that the wall would halt any runoff and they will soon be adding new mulch to the playground as well.

The Land of Sweet Forever by Harper Lee
Available to check out in ebook and audiobook from Libby with your GPL card!

The Land of Sweet Forever combines Lee’s early short fiction and later nonfiction in a volume offering an unprecedented look at the development of her inimitable voice. Covering territory from the Alabama schoolyards of Lee’s youth to the luncheonettes and movie houses of midcentury Manhattan, The Land of Sweet Forever invites still-vital conversations about politics, equality, travel, love, fiction, art, the American South, and what it means to lead an engaged and creative life.

This collection comes with an introduction by Casey Cep, Harper Lee’s appointed biographer, which provides illuminating background for our reading of these stories and connects them both to Lee’s life and to her two novels.

Guymon Airport Groundbreaking Ceremony Set for November

GUYMON- The Guymon Municipal Airport is preparing for the groundbreaking ceremony and ribbon cutting for their newly acquired transit hangar. The 120’ X 100’ hangar is part of the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics’ (ODAA) Statewide Hangar Program, ODAA’s Communications and Digital Marketing Coordinator Melissa Fuller shares. This program addresses the current hangar space shortage and aims to increase and expand the aviation business. In addition, the project is part of ODAA’s five-year Airport Construction Program (ACP), which looks to develop and maintain statewide airport systems and support Oklahoma’s business, transportation, and commerce.

The $2.3 million project received help from various entities. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) contributed $1.3 million, the ODAA pitching in roughly $920,000, and our local airport covering the remaining $115,000. Fixed Based Operator, Gregg Downing also shared that the project took a total of 109 days to complete.

The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on November 17, 2025, at 2 p.m. at the Guymon Municipal Airport.
