During the week of April 13-17th, our Library Director, Blair Henson, was invited to represent Oklahoma, Guymon, and the panhandled at The Institute of Museum and Library Services’ America 250 Convening in Phoenix, Arizona.

The Convening was a gathering of small, rural libraries from all over the American Southwest to discuss ideas and tools for how to celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s Founding. At this event Library Director Blair Henson attended workshops, made connections from across the region and presented the ideas of our own library to the Convening. Both librarians and representatives were excited and inspired by the ideas that she presented; some indicated their intention to mimic Guymon’s ideas in their own libraries.

When discussing the projects, programs and future of what she learned, Blair had this to say “While America 250 is about our country’s history, the people are its history. America 250 is about showing all of the ways that our towns make the whole of the country. This is going to be an ongoing project, not just for this year, but for many years to come, to celebrate not only the history of America, but also of Guymon.”

Roadmap:
-A historical project, letting patrons and visitors walk through a display of our history.
-Programs will go live in the early fall, so keep your eyes peeled for news and requests so YOU can be involved.
- Future events and programs will pop up sporadically, so make sure to stay connected for what the library is doing. (You can send us a private message on Facebook if you’re not already signed up for our newsletter!)

📚 Today is National Library Workers Day, and we’re celebrating the people who make the GPL come alive every day.

From planning programs and helping patrons find just the right resource, to purchasing materials, reaching out to the community, and everything behind the scenes, the librarians at the GPL do it all. 💻

They create welcoming spaces, spark curiosity, support lifelong learning, and make Guymon stronger in ways big and small.

Take a moment today to thank a GPL librarian. They’re the reason the library is such a fun, inspiring place to be. 💟
