Guymon Municipal Airport Celebrates Transient Hangar Ribbon Cutting and Groundbreaking ✈️
GUYMON- The Guymon Municipal Airport broke ground on the construction zone where the new transient hangar will be located. The 12,000-foot hangar comes in collaboration with the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics’ (ODAA) Statewide Hangar Program and their five-year Airport Construction Program (ACP). The programs aim to increase and expand aviation business.
This afternoon, city officials and employees, Guymon Chamber Ambassadors, students from Guymon Public Schools Aviation Program, as well as community members, gathered to break ground and celebrate the ribbon cutting for the new transient hangar. Mayor Kim Peterson led the ceremony and welcomed ODAA’s Director Grayson Ardies who spoke about the aviation business in Oklahoma and its impact.
City Manager, Mike Shannon shared, “We are thrilled to bring this new transient hangar to Guymon Municipal Airport. This project positions us for incredible opportunities—jet traffic, business development, regional partnerships, and a stronger economic footprint for years to come. It’s a powerful statement about who we are as a community: forward-thinking, ambitious, and committed to building a vibrant future for Guymon.”
Work on the transient hangar will continue and its anticipated completion will be in 2026 where a grand opening and additional ribbon cutting will take place.

Guymon Fire Department EMS services were deployed to Weatherford, OK last night and early this morning for a Mass Casualty Incident involving an anhydrous ammonia tanker truck trailer at a local motel. Region-1 Regional Emergency Medical System Team responded lead by Guymon’s Assist Fire Chief.
Picture of the scene shows what appears as a cloud near the ground in the parking lot. That is hazardous and deadly anhydrous ammonia cloud that prompted emergency evacuations of a large area. Multiple inhalation and contact injuries have been reported. Stay tuned to local and national news outlets on this event.

Parks Department Gears Up for Holiday Season 🦃🎄
GUYMON- The Parks Department has been hard at work to ensure the newly crafted ‘Guymon’ sign is up before the holiday season begins. Parks Director, Jorge Guzman, has been working with his crew since Tuesday installing the sign and is preparing to add Christmas lights. When asked why Centennial Park was chosen as the location for the sign, Guzman stated, “It’s right off the highway so there will be a lot of traffic.”
In addition, the Parks Department has also added a stem wall to the playground at Thompson Park. Guzman advised that the wall would halt any runoff and they will soon be adding new mulch to the playground as well.

Guymon Fire Department, Police Department, and Animal Control Officers rescued and removed a cat from a tree today. The cat was reported to have been in this tree for five days. The animal was retrieved and taken by Animal Control to the shelter for evaluation and care. Thank you for these departments working together!
