Tour Our Fire Department!

For those who've never had the opportunity to drop in and experience our fire department campus in person, we've put together a short film for you to know where we house our trucks and equipment. To us, it's our home away from home. Enjoy!

Disciplines

Paramedics

We currently have 20 paramedics that respond to our citizens with the most up to date medicine being practiced today. Our paramedics are trained to treat and transport many types of emergencies. Being so far from a trauma center, if the need arises, we can meet a fixed wing airplane and transport patients to Amarillo, Lubbock, OKC, or Wichita. This allows for the best possible patient outcome. We are part of the State’s Region 1 REMSS team.

Wildland Firefighting

Living on the prairie allows us the opportunity to fight many large grass fires. These grass fires can move quickly and can be extremely dangerous and destructive. We are part of the Texas County Strike Team and have been to many fires over 50,000 acres.

Hazardous Material

Thanks to Oklahoma Homeland Security we have the trained personnel and the equipment to respond to haz mat incidents. There are many trains, and semis that come through our town, so we must be prepared to respond to any type of haz mat incidents. We have responded to unknown liquids, white powder scares, H2S leaks, and chlorine leaks to mention a few.

Technical Rescue

Again, thanks to Oklahoma Homeland Security, we have the trained personnel and the equipment to respond to many technical rescue events. Our team is trained to respond to high angle rescues, trench rescues, structural collapse, confined space, and swift water. Our team has responded to the Woodward Tornado, Hurricane Harvey, and joined in on many other searches in the area.

Code Enforcement

We feel it is extremely important to protect our citizens and our guests through active code enforcement. We do this with the help of our fire marshal that inspects new businesses and existing businesses alike. He is also responsible for investigating fires that are suspicious in nature. He has helped arrest arsonist, as well as mentor youth fire setters.

Rehabilitation / Decontamination

We also have the ability to set up cooling stations, rest stations, and showers for any type of event. This has been used at the Texas County Fair, and many wild land fires.

Public Education

Our number one goal is to prevent fires, if we fail in that job then we must be really good at our second job which is putting the fire out. We actively participate in many public education opportunities. During Fire Prevention Week we teach over 1500 kids. We also participate in youth fairs, elder fairs, and drinking and driving prevention classes.
